What Is MMA? ... and is it right for me?
What is MMA you ask, MMA is a loosly used term these days. Most think MMA is any sort of competetive figting. But if you ask us a Kingdom MMA, "What is MMA?" We will tell you it is a way to bring out the best in you.
MMA stands for Mixed Martial Arts, a combative full contact fighting sport originally describing the fighting style of fighters in professional "Vale Tudo" style MMA tournaments. Later made popular durring the mid 90's in the United States by fight promotion entities like The U.F.C. (Ultimate Fighting Championship) and Battlecade: Extreme Fighting. These no holds barred fights and cage matches developed a huge following drawing competitors from all over the world to areas like Dallas to compete in MMA Competitions.
The MMA competitors used a variety of fighting styles and combat techniques to try to best their opponent. Originaly these Vale Tudo style fights and cage matches had very little rules, fighters were free to attack their opponents in a variety of ways, "mixed" martial arts, causing tremendous damage and injury to the fighters. Over the years the growing popularity of MMA fights and even the burgiouning MMA culture has lead to new MMA rules and regulations to make fights safer for the competitors and allow for greater acceptance of mixed martial arts as a main stream sport.
